Kenya braces for another week of rain in several regions in latest weather forecast
The department’s weekly weather outlook, released on Monday, June 9, predicts heavy afternoon showers and thunderstorms for western counties, while northern areas like Marsabit, Wajir, and Turkana will remain dry and sunny during the day.
Kenya is expected to experience mixed weather conditions this week, ranging from thunderstorms in the west to dry, sunny days in the north, according to the latest forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

Counties around Lake Victoria and parts of the Rift Valley, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are expected to receive sunny mornings and showers with thunderstorms in the afternoons. Nights in these areas will remain partly cloudy.
“The maximum temperatures during this period are expected to be 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures will be 8 degrees Celsius,” the forecast said.
In contrast, the northern region, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will experience dry conditions throughout the forecast period, with sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
These counties will see high daytime temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius and minimums of 17 degrees Celsius.
Turkana and Samburu counties are also set to remain dry, with day-long sunny intervals and partly cloudy nights.
Maximum temperatures in these regions will reach 36 degrees Celsius, with minimums dropping to 8 degrees.
The clear contrast in weather patterns across Kenya highlights the diverse climate zones in the country, with one side receiving frequent rainfall and the other remaining dry and hot.
The department has urged the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the rains continue in parts of the country.
